- About
I. Welcome
Hi, this is the official guide for Droidarena 2. Hopefully this
will allow you to play the game, and should outline all you need to know. I will
touch upon all the different aspects, however what I wont do is go into great
detail about the new special aspect of the game, RSL (robot scripting language)
as it is too large a subject to explain in this manual, however a channel on
irc.droidarena.com, #rsl, and a separate scripting guide, will explain the language in
full.
II. Changes since Season 7
A number of smaller bugs have been fixed, and balance was planned in a detail
that has never been done yet.
One of the most radically new aspects of the game is being able to fight in
cities, raid or defend them. Please see the CORPORATION / CITIES section for
more details.
Another new feature is that you are now able to test
your RSL scripts before you use them in arenas. This is done through the BASE /
SIMULATION page. Please see the appropriate section to learn more.

III. Character Statistics
In Droidarena, you will take
upon the role of a decker, and you will own a base, and your own intelligence
community. Each character has his / her own statistics, resources and details. A
small summary of the deckers’ statistics appears at the top of the page, and a
more detailed version can be seen when clicking on your name. Other players may
also see the statistics under your name. A table below lists all the statistics
displayed in the status bar at the top of the page, the letters in square
brackets mark the abbreviation letters for each statistic
|

Credits are the main currency in Droidarena, and are used for a
multitude of things, such as purchasing equipment.

The level statistic shows you your current level and total amount
of XP
|
| [A]rena:

A
|
This shows which arena (if any) you are currently in and its
phase.
|
The status bar
also shows your decker alias, your decker number, and your decker
rank.
Also on the status bar you see your alignment with The Senate and The
Inquisition. This does not influence your character, it is merely a sign which
ruling force favors you.
A decker’s extended statistics also show
their last login time, their online status (being online is marked with a small
greenish coloured star), their ICQ number (ICQ being an instant messenger
service on the internet), their current kill count, and their arenas won and
lost count. The kill count is the amount of enemy robots slain during arena
fights, and the arena won is how many times you have finished an arena with the
doll, the arenas lost is when you finish the arena without it. You can also view
the player’s awards, which can be given by Droidarena administrators or leaders
of corporations (we’ll talk about corporations in more detail later on), and
finally you can send a message to the player through the in-game messaging
network.

IV. The Game Itself
This section of the manual is
going through each section of the game in depth, explaining each of the aspects
of the particular page. The headers are displayed in the format MAIN HEADER /
SUBSECTION, the main header being the text on the menu; the subsections are
grey text. If you look at the Droidarena site, you will
notice that every one of the interface pages has this same layout, so you should
be able to find out easily where each section is.
INFORMATION / NEWS
This page is the central hub of information for the whole of the
Droidarena community. It contains information on everything, from whether the
latest update was successful and what it did, to when the next tournament is to
be held. Major updates and fixes are posted on this page, along with
announcements which will affect the whole of Droidarena, such as reported and
confirmed bugs, congratulations to competition winners, and people
joining/leaving the Droidarena staff (also known as The Senate). If you need to
find out what the latest thing going on in the Droidarena world is, this is the
page to check, and it automatically loads upon login.
BASE / STRUCTURES
This
page is where you see what provides the steady source of income for your career
as a decker, your buildings. There are four different types of building, the
Construction Hall, which provides you with Construction Points, the
Research Lab, which gives you a quota of Research Points every tick.
There’s also the Intelligence HQ which boosts your chance of
successfully completing a spy mission by a certain percentage, and finally
there’s the Finance Tower, which makes you some Credits every tick.
Each of these structures
produces a certain amount of its specific resource every tick, and the amount it
produces depends on its upgrade level. This level starts out at 1, and as you
gain experience levels, you will be able to boost it up to higher numbers. You
gain 3 upgrade points per experience level. Below is a table summarising the
building types and what is produced, and showing the amount of resource produced
per level:

BASE / RESEARCH LAB
The research lab is where you spend all those precious Research Points
made by the Research Lab structure. This page has very little to it, other than
a list of the researches that you have completed, and those that are available
for research. It is presented in table form, and shows the name of the research,
the cost in research points, the time taken to research it and the abilities and
bonuses awarded by finishing it. Be careful which researches you pick though, as
you can only research one thing at a time!
BASE / HANGAR
Possibly one of the most important pages in the whole of Droidarena, the
hangar is where all your robot related equipment is kept, and equipped. On this
page, you can choose which of your frames to use, which weapons to put on it,
and which bits of equipment to spend those precious upgrade points on. This page
also allows you to repair any damaged equipment if you are in a particular hurry
to have fully functional equipment (equipment auto-repairs slightly at no extra
cost every few minutes, but this takes a LOT of time).
BASE / COVERT OPERATIONS HQ
This page is where you do all
your spying and counter-spying. You can order spy missions off of this page, or
you can upgrade the level of your spies. There are four different types of spy
class, summarised in the table below:
|
Type |
Abbreviation |
Role |
| Prevention
|
[PRE]
|
Attempts to prevent enemy spy missions succeeding.
|
| Monitoring
|
[MON]
|
Observes targets communications/equipment
|
| Sabotage
|
[SAB]
|
Attempts to destroy/disrupt target’s base/functions
|
| Thief
|
[THF]
|
Attempts to steal resources or RSL scripts.
|
The missions available for you to execute
depends upon the levels of your agents specialised in that field, and some
missions requires several agent types, and they must all meet the required
levels. These levels work in a very similar way to building upgrade points, in
that every time you (the decker) goes up an experience level, you gain a set
number of upgrade points, in this case, you gain two agent upgrade points for
every experience level you gain. For a full list of the missions within the
game, and a full description of what they do and what they require, see the
COVERT OPERATIONS HQ page in-game.

BASE / SIMULATION
On this page you can test how your robot would react in a real arena fight
with your current weapons, shields, cpu and script. Since this is only a
simulation, it will take less time than an arena fight usually does. From 2
minutes to 2 hours or more, it is not certain when the simulation will end,
however it is likely that it will only take a few minutes to complete. For a
limited time you can have only one simulation a day, our staff will adjust the
number of simulations you can have depending on server load.
Simulated arenas are often referred to as "simulations" or "VRAs" which
stands for Virtual Reality Arenas. To begin a simulation, you need to prepare
your robot, and the script you want to test. Everything will be happening just
like in real arenas, except you will not receive any real damage, nor resources
or experience.
Your robot can join real arenas while the simulation is running, but you can
start one simulation at a time. You can choose to let your robot wander alone,
or can add up to 3 enemies to fight it. Simulated arenas are usually much
smaller than real arenas, so you do not have to worry about not finding your
enemy in the arena.
Each simulation costs money of course. The more experienced you are, the more
it will cost. The price depends on how many enemies you set up and the
complexity of the arena map that you want to simulate. Since simulations run on
Senate or Inquisition mainframes, it is not possible to cancel them. Once you
start a simulation you must wait until it ends.

TERMINAL / ARENAS.DA
This section will introduce you to the heart of Droidarena – the arenas
themselves. These are the places in which your robot competes against hundreds
of others to earn kills, credits, construction points, experience and prestige.
In order to
access the arenas, you have to first research “Arena Teleport,” which takes 1
turn to complete. This will give you time to buy all the equipment that you
need to enter an arena. You MUST have a frame, scanner (radar) and processor equipped,
and a script uploaded, in order to join arenas (see relevant sections). You will
probably also want a shield, some weapons and maybe even a communications
device. Once you have completed all of this, you are ready to
rumble.
Click the
TERMINAL/ARENAS.DA link to access the arena page. You will see a list of 25
arenas, all of which are in the “join phase.” Above this list is a drop down
box. By clicking on the drop down arrow, and then on one of the options in the
menu, you can choose to see either All Arenas, Arenas in Join Phase, Arenas in
Bets Phase, Arenas in Play Phase or Arenas in Results
Phase.
Arenas have 4
different phases, each used for a certain function. Firstly, an arena will
appear in the JOIN phase for 1 hour. This is the phase in which deckers may join
the arena, by clicking the “JOIN” link on the Joinable Arenas list. After an
hour, the arena goes into the BETS phase. This also lasts for an hour, and is
when deckers may place bets on who will win the arena (see Wagering section).
After BETS, the arena goes into the PLAY phase. This is when your robot actually
does battle with the other robots, and also when your XP, CRs and CPs and kills
are awarded. Your win/loss display is also updated in the PLAY phase, and the
blackbox log becomes available. You may not leave or join an arena when it is in
BETS or PLAY.
After the PLAY
phase, your robot is let out of the arena. You may then repair and join a new
arena again if you choose. The arena goes into the RESULTS phase after PLAY.
This is when the results of the arena are published in the form of an ordered
list. This can be accessed by selecting “List Arenas where Results are
Available” from the drop down menu on the ARENAS.DA page, and then clicking on
the name of the arena that you want to see the results of. Players are listed in
order of the XP that they gained from the arena (right hand column). A gold disc
indicates that that player got the doll, and a chevron indicates that that
player was on the winning team (corporation).
Before joining
an arena, you must check that it is suitable for you. Arenas are set so that
only so many people can join from each corporation (1/corp, 2/corp, 3/corp etc).
This is displayed in the “Limitations” column of the ARENAS.DA joinable arenas
page. Also, some arenas may be for loners only (“loner only”), and many have
level limits (
e.g. “
3/corp,
free for all, from level 3 up to level 8” will only let levels 3 to 8 join).
“Free for All” arenas with no level restrictions allow anyone to join. Some
arenas have passwords, so that only the people who the creator wants to enter
can enter. Such arenas include Senate organized tournaments, or pre-arranged
inter-corporation tournaments. These arenas have a little yellow key to the left
of their name on the main arena list. After clicking the “JOIN” link, you must
type in the key and press enter. Sometimes, arenas may also place restrictions
on the type of player who can join, e.g. members of a corporation, leaders of a
corporation or financial advisors only. For more on the possible positions you
may have, see the Corporations section.
Each arena can only host 20 robots. The current number that has joined is
displayed in the “Regs” column on the joinable arenas list (e.g. 7/20 means 7
players out of a maximum of 20 players have joined). When an arena reaches
20/20, the JOIN link changes to a white, “FULL.” This means that you cannot join
that arena unless someone leaves.
You can access the list of players who have joined an
arena by clicking on the name of the arena, or, when the notice, “You have
successfully joined… click here to see who is playing” comes
up, clicking on “here.” The resulting page shows the names of the players, their level and
their corporation. There is also a “Leave” link, which you may click if you
wish to leave. Not all joined robots are player controlled. If you see Security
Orbs, those are automatic defenses which were deployed by an enemy military advisor.
See cities to learn more about this new feature.

TERMINAL / BETS.DA
Betting is the gambling side of DA. You go to an arena (whilst in bets)
and place CR on the person you think is most likely to win the arena you are
betting on. You can choose how much you bet and the odds vary according to how
high the level difference is (from highest to lowest).
TERMINAL / FUWAREZ.ORG
This is really where your CR comes into play. Your link to the market is
Uncle Fu (hence the name FuWarez.Org). This is the market where you buy your
vital equipment. Below is a list of what is under each link available to you in
the market.
|
Type |
Description |
| 1. Processors
|
These are your robot’s CPU. Without one
of these equipped you cannot run your script.
|
| 2.Frames
|
Generally this is what you equip
everything onto. Without this you aren’t going to be going anywhere fast
|
| 3.Radars
|
In an arena radars are crucial. Without a
radar you cannot see your enemy and therefore cannot shoot with any hope
of accuracy
|
| 4.Shields
|
This is your basic defence. Without a
shield you wont last very long in an arena…
|
| 5. Weapons
|
Your basic offence in an arena. You can
equip as many as your frame will allow but remember to keep an eye on your
CR for buying other crucial equipment.
|
| 6. Special devices
|
This is where you can find your
communications device. This allows you to send and receive messages in an
arena.
|
| 7. Software
|
If you are not the best of scriptwriters
and you want a script that won’t loop then this is where you want to be
spending your CR first.

TERMINAL / DECKERS.NET
Decker is the slang for the people of Droidarena. This is where you can
search through (in alphabetical order) every person in DA. You can search by
player name or by player id (if you know it) or you can actually search a
players name for its id or/and corporation.
TERMINAL / TOPLIST
Ah the Top list. This shows the people 10 ranks above you and below you.
You can change the variables to 50 ranks above and below and also 100 ranks
above and below your own. You can click on any of the player’s names to get
information about them
TERMINAL / MONSTERNET
To view this you must
register for MonsterNet. And please for security make sure your id and
password are different from that of your Droidarena account, or any other
account you have on the internet or intranet you are using! When you click on this part of the terminal you will
be taken to the MonsterNet login screen and asked to register.
MonsterNet. Here is where you keep up to speed
with people’s Opinions, Announcements and Questions. This is because
MonsterNet just happens to be Droidarena’s own messaging board with 2l different
topics. These are “Admin’s Corner” and “General”
Admin’s Corner:
Here you will find many different announcements from the game administrators. It is where
you keep up to date with the news and bug fixes that have been made.
General:
This is where you find all of the other DA related ‘stuff’. Topics in
here range from problems and issues to recruiting and general chat.
Take your pick of a topic e.g. Droidarena or Suggestions and just take a
browse through all of the different opinions, jokes and problems of every one
that makes up DA, but always remember – this is a game, and you should also
behave as if you were playing a game. Be nice to others and have fun.
TERMINAL / GLOBAL CHAT
When you click this option a window will come up saying about security.
Click yes here and you will be taken into the main DA channel using mIRC within
Droidarena. It logs you in with your Droidarena nickname but when you click
something else in the left hand menu you are logged out of chat and sent to that
page.
TERMINAL / EMAIL
Email is where you are brought if you click on the little letter in the
top right hand corner of your DA window. You can also visit this by going into
terminal and clicking email. From here you can compose messages to other
players. You can read your current messages or store them in a custom made
folder. Really just like normal Email but instead of an address you use the
players (the person you want to send a message to) id to send messages.
PERSONAL FILES / BLACKBOX LOGS
The Black Box is where your arena fights are recorded. It only stores the
5 most recent arena fights. When you click on the name of the arena you are
brought to a screen with the player names on the right (that fought in the
arena) and in the middle you will find a screen that is loading. Allow it to
load (and click on your name in the list on the right) and you can view your
progress through the 3D world of the arena. You can also see other people’s
perceptions by clicking on the relevant names or you can choose free cam and
roam around the arena on your own using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Also if
you prefer to see the written version of the arena fight then scroll down and
click on “view full log”.
PERSONAL FILES / SCRIPT LIBRARY
This is where you copy your scripts into the box then save your compiled
or bought RSL scripts for your Robot. On this page is a list of the scripts,
which you currently own, it tells you what script you currently have uploaded
(and to upload a script click the upload next to the script you want uploaded)
to your Robot’s processor and includes a very handy script editor. Though it may
not be the ideal place to do the coding for the script it is very handy for a
quick look through your scripts and is the only place that you can view the code
from the scripts off of FuWarez.org .Use it well!

CORPORATION / MEMBERS
This page is where all the important decisions for leaders occur, it is
also a source of general easy access information for Corporation members. It can
tell you if members are on/offline and which arena they have joined. The
positions that the leaders can change people from and to are summarised in the
table below:

CORPORATION / CITIES
When you play in an arena and win, you take control
of the city where the specific arena was held. This is great, because you get
several benefits from it. On one hand the city pays you taxes. The income gained
from each city is received by your corporation. The more stars a city has the
more it will pay. More crowded cities have more people living in them so they
obviously pay more.
The other nice thing you get; you will also receive a
20% shields bonus when you fight in your own arena.
However, it is very
easy to lose your city. You must be alert when you see that your city has a high
chance of holding an arena fight soon. In order to keep your city you need to
join all fights and win in each of them.
Depending on how many fights
your city has seen, you might receive further shield bonuses in the arena. A
city that has held more than 20 fights will give you +1% for defense after each
further fight.
Now you probably see that the more fights a city plays the
harder it is to capture it, but also - the more appealing it becomes for other
corporations.
To avoid losing a city only because you are not available at the
time the enemy tries to take over, you can deploy up to 4 security orbs into
each of your your arenas. Although they are expensive and are easy game for a
veteran raiding party, they will surely take care of the not so experienced
intruders. Best of all, although they fight on your side, they do not count
towards the max / corp arena limit, so you could easily wipe out the opposition
with 8 players at most in a 4 / corp arena in an ideal case. Unfortunately these
are tough times, and most raids are far from being easy to repell, you will
learn that quickly. Use the security orbs where you must, but never rely only on
them, as they are run by a relatively simple AI module, and they can not
recognize the doll. Security orbs can only be deployed by military advisors or
leaders.
If you would like to play in a specific arena, then use your
raid cards!
A raid card is used to force a city to hold a fight. raid
cards can only be used by military advisors or leaders. Your corporation
receives 3 new raid cards each day. If you have not used all your raid cards the
previous day then they will accumulate, you will be able to pile them up and use
many at once.
Each
raid card raises the current chance value of a city to hold an arena fight by
10%. (Note: the given chance percentage raise might differ as that is a
relational value.) For cities that recently held an arena fight it might take
many cards to force the city to hold another fight. To use a raid card, go to
CORPORATION / CITIES / SEARCH CITY LISTING where you must give some details
about the city you want to call. The search will only display 50 cities at most.
In the list you will see the [ CALL ] link next to each city. Click on one of
the links, and your raid card will be used. Use your cards wisely!
CORPORATION / BANK
This is where the resource managers of the Corporation can dispense the
Corporations resources that have been pooled by the members. The different
managers can dispense the different kinds of resource. Financial Advisors can
dispense Credits, Research Specialists can hand out Corporate Research points
and Construction managers can dish out Construction Points as they see fit. All
other members of the Corporation can deposit as much as they want of each
resource but need to contact a corporate resource manager, for the specified
resource they want, if they want to withdraw any.
CORPORATION / FORUM
This is where in-game internal corporate relations take place. Here any
member of the Corporation can start a new thread or post a reply, you can also
delete your own threads, which you create. There are three categories for your
thread to go under: Internal Affairs, External Affairs, Miscellaneous and
Off-topic. The choice of where your thread goes is at your discretion. But try
and keep it clean eh?
CORPORATION / RADIO
The Corp Radio works in the same way as the TERMINAL/GLOBAL CHAT. You
click yes to the security gateway and it will load up your preset corporation
chat room. It will log you in to the chat room as your DA name and will log you
out when you click another page from the menu on the left.
CORPORATION / WEB
This is the Corporation Web Page. Only Leaders may edit it and ‘deckers’
can access this web page when looking at your corps information. All it really
is a page made up of information and trying to ‘sell’ your corp. to the loners
so that they will join you.
CORPORATION / LOG
The log allows you to access the past transference of funds from the bank
to members or vice versa. It also logs and allows you to see the acceptance of
new deckers to the corporation.
CORPORATION / JOIN REQUESTS
Leaders and Approvers are the only corporation members to be able to view
this page. When a new request it sent to the corp. an A appears next to the
[help] in the top right hand corner. If this A is clicked on it will take you to
the Join requests page. From here you can either approve or reject deckers
looking to join your corporation.
CORPORATION / LEAVE CORP
When this option is chosen a window will come up and ask you if you are
sure you want to leave the corporation. If you click yes you are taken to a page
where the corps are listed in alphabetical order. Use the drop down menu with an
A in It and choose a letter to go to a list of the corps beginning with that
letter.
SYSTEM / PREFERENCES
This page allows you to change your password, email address, ICQ number
and DA newsletter subscription. Once you have finished updating the fields,
click "change!" Leaving fields blank will result in that part remaining
unchanged.
You may also delete your character from the game on this page (BE CAREFUL
- IT'S DIFFICULT TO GET THIS UNDONE).
